Cookie Policy.
searxly.app and the Searxly software use almost no cookies. Our support site requires accounts and uses standard auth cookies. Here's exactly what happens.
Last updated: July 2026 · Plain language, not legalese. If this ever conflicts with actual behavior, the behavior wins.
1. The short version
searxly.app ships no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, and no cross-site tracking. The Searxly applications themselves are designed to avoid persistent cookies wherever possible. Our separate support site (support.searxly.app) requires accounts and uses standard auth cookies (see section 3).
2. This website (searxly.app)
- No tracking or advertising cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any third-party analytics that set cookies for profiling.
- One preference cookie, and only if you ask for it. If you choose a language with the switcher in the header, we store
searxly-locale— the two-letter code, and nothing else — so the site opens in that language next time. It lasts a year, because being asked the same question every week is its own kind of broken. It is written only when you click a language yourself: we never set it from what we guessed about you. If you never touch the switcher, it's never set, and we simply serve whichever language your browser asks for. You can clear it any time in your browser's site-data settings. - No other cookies, and no banner. That one preference cookie is the only thing we store, and a cookie you asked us to set to remember your own choice doesn't require a consent banner — which is precisely why we don't set it before you've chosen.
- No third-party cookies from embeds. We do not embed videos, maps, or social widgets that load external cookies.
3. Support website (support.searxly.app)
Our separate support portal at support.searxly.app requires account creation to submit or manage support tickets. Because of this:
- It uses standard authentication cookies and session cookies to keep you logged in.
- It may set essential cookies for CSRF protection, login state, and security.
- These are limited to the support domain and are not used for tracking or advertising across sites.
- Account data (email, tickets, etc.) is handled according to our Privacy Policy.
This is completely separate from the Searxly browser and the main searxly.app site (which do not require accounts).
4. The Searxly applications
Searxly is a native browser. When you browse the web through it:
- Websites you visit can set their own cookies in the normal way (subject to our built-in ad & tracker blocking).
- In private / amnesic modes (especially in Searxly Maximum), cookies and site storage are kept in memory only and discarded when the tab or session closes.
- We do not inject our own cookies, tracking pixels, or identifiers into the pages you visit.
- Search suggestions and results never rely on tracking cookies from upstream engines.
5. Similar technologies
We also avoid:
- LocalStorage or IndexedDB used for cross-site tracking
- Fingerprinting scripts
- Referrer leaking that could be used to profile you
- ETag or cache-based tracking
6. Your choices
Most modern browsers (including Searxly) let you block cookies by default or clear them easily. Because we don't rely on cookies for any essential service, disabling them will not break the site or the app. Block the language cookie and the switcher still works — you'll just get the language your browser asks for each visit instead of the one you last picked. You can also skip it entirely by linking straight to a language, like searxly.app/fr/, which always serves French no matter what any cookie says.
7. Changes & contact
If we ever start using any cookie technology, we will update this page and notify you through our official channels. Questions? Email privacy@searxly.app.
